Foundations of Emergency Medicine’s NEW Essential Learning references are a collection of topic-based summaries with clinically relevant key learning points. They are a learning-facing version of our former “Teaching Points Handouts”, which coordinate with Foundations cases within each unit of our Foundations I and II courses. They are NOT intended to be a comprehensive knowledge review of each topic. They are intended to supplement Learning Pathway assignments and classroom-based learning within our core content courses. You should consider using our Essential Learning summaries in the following ways:
- Fill knowledge gaps after Foundations I and II meetings- especially if you miss a meeting or have to rush through a case.
- Spaced repetition for FoEM learning objectives
- Reference during clinical shifts– a direct connection to what you learned in the classroom
- Clinical teaching in the ED– brief learning at shift change, clinical pearls for junior residents or medical students on shift, etc.
Note- we will release additional topics over the coming months to ensure all content within Foundations I and II is included.
